As an aesthetic sport, bodybuilding back to the 11th Century due in India where athletes created their own weight (so-called Nai) stone and wood. There are also indications that they created the first kind of gyms at this time.
First Year
Bodybuilding is not really to win popularity until the late 19th Century, when the sport was by the German Eugen Sandow promoted – now often referred to as the “Father of Modern Bodybuilding. He is credited to the inventor and selling machine, the first of dumbbells.
Sandow organized the first bodybuilding contest of the 14th September 1901 the “Great Competition” and held at the Royal Albert Hall called. Measured by himself, Sir Charles Lawes, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the contest a great success and was dismissed sold to hundreds of fans. The trophy for the winner is a bronze statue of Sandow himself sculpture by Frederick Pomeroy. The statue was (such as “The Sandow known)” with the winner of the Mr. Olympia since 1977.
In the early 20th Century began Bernarr Macfadden and Charles Atlas, promote worldwide bodybuilding.
1940 – 1970
The period 1940-1970 is often called the “Golden Age” of bodybuilding. It was during this time that the technical improvements, training, publications, press the shelves more and more competitions take place. Currently, the association with muscle-beach in Santa Monica, California, characterized the United States.
Is due to the rising popularity of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), a bodybuilding competition to their weights lifted into force in 1939 – the following year the competition was named AAU Mr. America.
In the mid-1940s, the majority of bodybuilders angry AAU since they only allowed the club weightlifting competitors and placed more importance on the Olympic sport. It is caused brothers Ben and Joe Weider to form the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB), the organization of the IFBB Mr. America, which is open to professional athletes.
In 1950, another organization, the National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) started their NABBA Mr. Universe contest in England. Another major competitor, G. Olympia was first held in 1965 – is currently the most prestigious title in bodybuilding.
Contests are the first for people, but has the NABBA Miss Universe 1965 and Miss Olympia was founded in 1980 to life.
1.970
In the 1970s, bodybuilding is great publicity by Arnold Schwarzenegger and the 1977 film Pumping Iron. At this time the IFBB dominated sport.
This period saw the emergence of anabolic steroids in sports bodybuilding and much more. To fight against them and not be allowed to a member of the IOC, the IFBB introduced strict doping tests for steroids and other banned substances.
The IFBB was trying to make an Olympic sport of bodybuilding. He obtained membership of the IOC in 2000 and is looking for a demonstration sport at the Olympics cause it was like to be added an eventing. It remains questionable, as some argue, not that bodybuilding is a sport for the current competition is not involved, athletic exertion. However, proponents argue that the installation work requires great skill and preparation.
